Local Sourcing, Always
We maintain active relationships with eight Alberta farms and three Edmonton-area specialty producers. When a farm has a surplus of something spectacular, we build it into our current proposals.
About Sparklriver
We're Sparklriver — a small, focused team that believes the best event food starts at the farm, not in a warehouse.
Sparklriver is a full-service catering company based in Edmonton, Alberta. We design and deliver seasonal menus for weddings, corporate events, and private gatherings across the greater Edmonton area. Our work begins at the market — specifically the Edmonton Organic Producers co-op and several family farms within a two-hour drive of the city — and ends when the last guest has been served and the space is clean again. We founded the company in 2017 with a straightforward conviction: that event catering in Edmonton could reflect the actual food culture of the region rather than defaulting to generic banquet fare. Seven years and several hundred events later, that conviction hasn't changed. What has changed is the depth of our supplier relationships, the range of event formats we're confident in, and the size of the team we can put into the field. We currently work with a core team of eight and a trusted pool of fifteen trained service staff who are available for larger events.
Every client engagement starts the same way: a conversation about the event, the guest list, the venue, and the season. From there, we produce a bespoke menu proposal — not a template with a few swapped ingredients, but a genuine design built from what's available and excellent at the time of your event. We work closely with you through one or two rounds of refinement, hold a tasting session for seated events with more than 30 guests, and confirm logistics with your venue team at least three weeks before the date. What we don't do: we don't operate a central production kitchen that pre-makes and reheats dishes for delivery. All our food is prepared fresh, on site or in a prep kitchen the morning of your event. This means we're not the right choice if you need same-day booking or a very last-minute turnaround — we need lead time to do the work properly. We also don't supply alcohol or hold a liquor license; beverage service needs to be arranged separately through your venue or a licensed bar service. Within those parameters, we'll do whatever it takes to make your event exceptional.
What shapes how we work, day in and day out.

We don't sell packages off a shelf. Every engagement starts with a blank-ish page and your event's specifics. This takes more time on our end, but it means the food is genuinely yours.
We'll tell you if a request isn't something we can do well. That honesty means you can trust the things we do say yes to.
We're based in Edmonton and take on events across the metro area. The best way to start is a quick email or phone call — we typically respond within one business day.
